Zones & Sites
This is the mental model everything else builds on: a site, the zones inside it, and how a zone turns into a number you can act on. Read it before the deeper pages and the rest will fall into place.
A site is a physical facility you monitor — a plant, terminal, elevator, or yard. It’s the top-level container: you sign in, open a site, and see everything stored there at a glance.

Every scan of this zone adds one measurement to its history — the volume above its floor, inside the footprint drawn above.
A zone is one measured area of storage inside a site — the thing that actually gets a number put on it. A zone is typically one of:
- an open pile on a pad or in a field,
- a bay — a walled or bunkered stall,
- a bunker, or
- a silo.
Each zone carries its own settings: a footprint (the outline that gets measured within), a material (which sets density for tonnage), an optional capacity (which unlocks fill level), a display unit, and a floor mode — labeled Ground Detection on the zone form — which is either Dynamic or Empty scan (see Floor Modes & Empty Scans).
The material is what turns a measurement into a business number: assign the right one and the tonnage follows; assign the wrong one and you get a correct volume with a wrong weight beside it.
You set a zone up once, in the 3D view: name it, draw its footprint on the live point cloud, and choose its material and floor mode. From then on each scan produces a new measurement, and the zone accumulates a history you can trend and alert on.
Where zones live
Section titled “Where zones live”Draw your zones here, in the portal. You trace the outline directly on a captured point cloud in the 3D view, so you can see the material you are drawing around, and every other setting a measurement depends on lives on the same form.
If your site runs Detect, zones stay in step in both directions — draw one in either system and it appears in the other. Either way a zone behaves identically once it exists.
Seeing a zone in 3D
Section titled “Seeing a zone in 3D”Every zone offers a 3D view of the captured surface — the actual shape of the material the volume was computed from. From that scene you can also draw and adjust a zone’s footprint and floor mode directly on the point cloud.
Anyone with site access can look. Changing a zone — drawing, reshaping, renaming, deleting it, or switching its floor mode — requires the Editor role or Admin on that site.
How they fit together
Section titled “How they fit together”Read it top to bottom. A site holds zones. A zone carries the settings that decide how it is measured — its footprint, the density of what’s in it, and how its floor is defined. Every scan adds a measurement to that zone’s history, and each measurement carries a volume plus the tonnage, fill level, and trend derived from it. That history is the point: it is what alerts fire on and what projections are built from.
