Glossary
The vocabulary used across these pages, in plain language. Each entry links to the page that explains it in depth.
Alert rule
Section titled “Alert rule”One zone, one metric, and one threshold — fill level, days of material left, volume, or tonnage, dropping below or rising above a number you set. A rule notifies when it changes state rather than on every scan, by email or on the portal’s bell depending on what each person chose. See Alerts & Notifications.
Baseline
Section titled “Baseline”The stored record of what a zone looks like empty. A baseline keeps the floor’s real per-cell contour — every dip, crown, and drain slope — rather than flattening it into a single plane. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Capacity
Section titled “Capacity”The full volume a zone holds when completely loaded. Optional — but without it a zone can’t show a fill level. See Zones & Sites.
Capture event
Section titled “Capture event”One capture from one source at one moment — the record that a scan happened, what took it, and when. A single capture event covers the whole site view, so it can produce a measurement for every zone the sensor saw.
The unit square the platform divides a zone’s footprint into before measuring height. Cell size is not a setting — it is chosen per zone from how densely the sensor reaches that zone. See Volume Methodology.
Coverage
Section titled “Coverage”How much of a zone the sensors actually reach. It is one of the things that decides a zone’s accuracy — a sensor that only sees part of a pile only measures that part — and persistently poor coverage is a mounting question rather than a setting. See What affects accuracy.
The peak of a pile. Steep-crowned piles are where measurement method matters most, which is why height is taken per cell rather than from the single tallest point. See Volume Methodology.
Density
Section titled “Density”How much a given volume of a material weighs. Density comes from the product assigned to the zone, and it is what turns a measured volume into tonnage. A zone can carry its own density value when its material is heavier or lighter than the catalog default. See Tonnage.
Dynamic
Section titled “Dynamic”One of the two Ground Detection choices, and what a zone starts on. The platform picks out the floor returns it can see — bare ground inside the zone outline and the ring just outside it — and fits one continuous plane through them, extending it under the material, at every measurement. It needs some bare floor in view. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Empty scan
Section titled “Empty scan”One of the two Ground Detection choices: a scan of a zone taken with all the material cleared out. The result is saved as the zone’s baseline — the floor’s real contour cell by cell, plus any permanent structures left standing — and every later scan is measured against it. Think of it as setting the zone’s “zero.” See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Fill level
Section titled “Fill level”Current volume expressed as a percentage of the zone’s capacity. It appears only on zones that have a capacity set. See Volume Methodology.
Floor baseline
Section titled “Floor baseline”The reference surface a volume is measured up from, and the single biggest factor in an accurate volume. Once established it is carried forward between scans and only replaced when a new scan is clearly better evidence, so the reference doesn’t wander. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Floor mode
Section titled “Floor mode”How a zone’s floor baseline is established, labeled Ground Detection on the zone form. Two choices: Dynamic, fitted from the returns the sensor can see at every measurement, and an Empty scan, stored once from the cleared bay. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Footprint
Section titled “Footprint”The outline you draw around a zone’s storage area, traced in the 3D view on a real scan. Only points inside it count toward that zone’s volume. Draw it slightly wider than the material so a ring of bare floor is included. See Volume Methodology.
The number staying at its last value on purpose — because equipment is working in the zone, or the sensor’s view is obstructed. A held number is the platform protecting the value, not a fault. See Troubleshooting & FAQ.
Max height (roof)
Section titled “Max height (roof)”The ceiling of a zone’s measurable space. Setting it below the building’s roof rules out rafters, roof and wall returns, so only material inside the zone is measured. Worth setting on any enclosed bay or bunker. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Measurement
Section titled “Measurement”One zone’s result from one scan: volume, plus the tonnage and fill level derived from it. A zone’s history of measurements is what trends, alerts, and reports are built on. See Zones & Sites.
Obstruction
Section titled “Obstruction”Something temporarily in the zone that is not material — a loader working the face, a truck backing in, a person walking through. Obstructions are detected rather than measured, and the zone’s volume is held while one is present. See Volume Methodology.
Point cloud
Section titled “Point cloud”The raw output of a scan: hundreds of thousands of individual 3D points, each one a spot the sensor measured on a real surface. Every volume starts as a point cloud. See Volume Methodology.
Product
Section titled “Product”What a zone stores, chosen from a catalog when the zone is set up. It carries the density that turns measured volume into tonnage, so the right product is what makes the tonnage right. A zone can override the catalog density. See Zones & Sites.
Segment
Section titled “Segment”A stretch of time over which a zone’s inventory held steady. The history folds repeated agreeing captures into one row and notes how many times the reading was confirmed, so the table reflects what changed rather than how often the sensor fired. See Troubleshooting & FAQ.
A physical facility you monitor — a plant, terminal, elevator, or yard. It is the top-level container that groups the zones inside it. See Zones & Sites.
Sloped floor
Section titled “Sloped floor”A zone whose ground is not level — a drainage grade, a ramped bay, a pad that falls away to one side. Sloped floors are measured faithfully at whatever angle they run; there is no maximum slope. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
A marker that a zone hasn’t produced a fresh measurement in a while. The number shown is the last one received; stale means it may no longer reflect what is physically in the zone. See Troubleshooting & FAQ.
Structures
Section titled “Structures”The permanent fixtures inside or around a zone — walls, dividers, pillars, conveyor legs, curbs. They are part of the building, not the inventory, so an empty scan records them once and cancels them out of every later scan instead of counting them as material. See Floor Modes & Empty Scans.
Tonnage
Section titled “Tonnage”Measured volume converted to weight using the zone’s density. Volume is what is measured; tonnage is derived. A wrong density gives a right volume and a wrong tonnage. See Volume Methodology.
Workspace
Section titled “Workspace”A named group of sites — a region, a business unit, a customer’s locations. Access granted to a workspace applies to every site in it, so adding a site to the workspace grants it without touching anyone’s access individually. See Team & Access.
One measured area of storage inside a site — an open pile, a bay, a bunker, or a silo. It is the thing that gets a number put on it, and it carries its own footprint, product, capacity, display unit, and floor mode. See Zones & Sites.
